Welcome to our PTA Reflections page! Just after the start of the school year, students have an opportunity to choose to participate in an arts-based program that reflects on a particular theme. Selecting from 6 categories - Dance Choreography/Film Production/Literature/Music Composition/Photography/Visual Arts - students connected their chosen art field to this year's theme: "I Matter Because..." Congratulations to the 11 students who participated in 5 of the 6 categories!

Music Composition - Intermediate
Noelle Trask, 5th Grade Become
With original music played on the ukulele and lyrics by Noelle Trask, she writes "I wrote an original song called "Become". It represents how I matter. Also it states that we were chosen to be born. We were not just born to lay around. The song also shows that even just little things can make you matter. The song ties to the theme because it directly says why I matter, and it says that you don't just matter because of your roots, or who you are related to - you matter for who you are."

Winter Urutia, 5th Grade Me and the Animal Kingdom
As stated in Winter's Artist's Statement: "My drawing relates to the theme because everyone has friends and family who you matter to and will bring you up in the darkness, even when they could get into big trouble. I matter because I’m kind, loyal, and humorous. The reason why I draw all my friends and family as animals is for one, it’s my strong points in art and two, I like to think that animals are helpful and kind no matter what; so that’s what I want to see in all the people I meet."

Avery Verardo, 4th Grade I Matter Because I'm A Big Sister
Creating a 14" X 17" drawing using pencil, oil pastel and water colors, Avery writes in her Artist's Statement: "I matter because I am a big sister. Being a big sister means I have to do my best to help my little brother. I made this painting with love and compassion for him. I made outer space to show that my love for him is as big as space. I made it by sketching the drawing and coloring it in with oil pastels. I water colored space, the water, planets, sun and the heart. Being a big sister I have to love him, and care for him, and help him. That is why I matter."
